Chimney Repair & Masonry
Repointing, rebricking and cementing — chimney masonry is usually the first thing on a Minnesota house to show its age.
A chimney stands exposed on all four sides, above the roofline, with nothing sheltering it. Water gets into the mortar joints, freezes, expands, and pushes the joint apart a fraction of a millimetre at a time. Do that a few hundred times a winter and the joints crumble, the bricks loosen, and the stack starts to lean.
We repair chimney masonry on Minnesota homes — grinding out failed mortar and repointing it, replacing spalled or loose brick, and recementing crowns and caps. Where the damage runs deeper than the surface, we rebuild the affected section rather than cosmetically patching over a structural problem.
Because the chimney meets the roof, chimney work and roof flashing usually need looking at together. We will tell you if what looks like a chimney leak is actually a flashing problem, or the other way round.
What this covers
- Chimney repair and stabilisation
- Rebricking and partial rebuilds
- Tuckpointing and repointing failed mortar joints
- Crown and cap cementing
- Flashing where the chimney meets the roof
